Where is the fear coming from? I believe we could say that generally social anxieties stem from two deep-seated issues.įirst, we minimize our own self-worth. That’s because the only real cure for social anxiety is in the Gospel. Signs of social anxiety abound, but if you dread answering the door or telephone, cringe at an invite to dinner at someone’s home, or avoid events out of fear of embarrassment, these could be indicators that you suffer from social anxiety.Ĭhristians are no more spared from the effects of social anxiety than the rest of the world, but Christians are particularly equipped to address and defeat it. While we can easily spend hours interacting with others via different forms of “social” media, for many the thought of face-to-face encounters is daunting. Social anxiety is a rapidly growing problem in today’s culture. Twelve years later, he’s still haunted by his rage-filled youth-which the entire world got to watch from every imaginable angle-and his anger issues have resulted in violent outbursts, zero friends, and clueless adults dumping him in the special education room at school. Gerald Faust knows exactly when he started feeling angry: the day his mother invited a reality television crew into his five-year-old life. Reality Boy deals with similar issues, about parents making the wrong decisions for their children and how this affects them growing up. We’re recommending some other books you might want to try if you liked Forgive Me, Leonard Peacock and will leave some discussion questions at the end for when you’re going to talk about this with your own book club.įorgive Me, Leonard Peacock is not as much a story about a school-shooting, but about a teenage boy on the edge of destruction. This book about a boy who wants to kill his former best-friend, was definitely a heavy one, but not always what we expected. We were right that there wasn’t any romance, but there sure was a lot of drama. For our YA pick in February we wanted to read something that didn’t have a heavy emphasis on romance, so we picked Forgive Me, Leonard Peacock. “ powerful and formidably researched globe-spanning thriller.” “Once you start this taut and muscular thriller, you won't be able to put it down.” "Massive in many senses, but none more so than its ability to exert a vice-like grip on the reader.Destined to be spy thriller of the year." “The most exciting desert island read of the season…a big, breathless tale of nonstop suspense.” Thestyle is visceral, gritty and cinematic.A satisfying and ambitious book, written with skill and verve." The plot twists and turns like a python in a sack. " I Am Pilgrim is a 21st century thriller: a high concept plot, but with finely drawn protagonists. Delivers thrills and spills.A full tilt mix of Homeland, The Wire and The Bourne Ultimatum." You will be happily surprised to find a new thriller franchise with brains to match its brawn.” Hayes’s globe-trotting book has more kicks, twists and winks than anything of its dusty genre has provided in a long time. I Am Pilgrim is simply one of the best suspense novels I've read in a long time.” He balances it all with the dexterity of the accomplished storyteller that he so obviously is. “Hayes delivers muscular prose, sniper-round accurate dialogue and enough superb and original plotting to fill three volumes. The gradual revelations throughout the two ‘interviews’ produce frisson after frisson. Both actors are utterly assured in this absorbing, perversely humorous, and impressively still production. Jillian Murray and Robert Meldrum each play two roles, Murray in her award-winning role as Claire Lanne, the self-confessed murderer (the play is based on historical events). Duras wrote it first as a novella fifty years ago the stage adaptation followed in 1968. Little wonder that fortyfivedownstairs is encoring Marguerite Duras’s brilliantly dialectical play L’amante anglaise, first presented in this production at La Mama Theatre in 2014, directed by Laurence Strangio. I understood that she was still young and inexperience but she should have been able to see the things she was doing wasn't right and time was not going to making the outcome any different. Sometimes I forgot she was 21 because she comes across as a lot younger. She either made poor decisions or someone ends up making them for her because she couldn't. I couldn't understand why it was so okay with her to lie and not see anything wrong stringing along two guys. She seems to lie without seeing anything wrong it. I was so enjoying this book until I found myself yelling at Keira to stop being such a chicken and just tell the truth already. The only thing that annoyed me the most about this book was it's protagonist Keira, my goodness could someone be so naive and foolish. Griffin was the funniest although kinda crude but still very funny. It was so funny with it's tongue in cheek and double entendre banter. My cheeks are still hurting me from smiling and laughing so much. Wow, this book was so good I kept reading till the end. His name then became a word that could not be used in my house after he sacked my dad, who by 1986 had been promoted to the first-team position. He was quick between the ears, highly entertaining and not afraid to take a risk. He was a showman and a businessman in the early days of Wigan's rise from the second division and his time spent working as a bookmaker at horse and greyhound racing tracks had made him 'street smart'. He wasn't the one with the most money, but he was the one with the most charisma and he knew how to create interest in the team. Wigan and RFL lead tributes to 'significant leader' Lindsay. Maurice was one of the four directors of the club in the early 1980s, although clearly the most prominent and vocal. I first became aware of Maurice when my father, who played for Wigan in the 1960s and 1970s, became the second-team coach at Central Park. Maurice Patrick Lindsay was certainly one of those (he had many nicknames, but we will stick to the one on his birth certificate!). They change the sport more than any player ever can, they of course make some enemies along the way, but they are remembered well after their involvement ends. It is most common in sport for the stars to be players or coaches, but every 50 years or so a person comes along who makes an indelible mark on their favourite game without ever having crossed the white line. Maurice Lindsay was a hugely influential rugby league figure both with Wigan and the RFL Krampus!: A Yuletide Adventure trade paperback (ISBN: 978-1637150832) is available now at both digital and physical retailers everywhere.īacktrack returns in the second volume of this full-throttle action series. On Goodreads, Enemies of the State and Enemy of My Enemy are the #1 and #2 books on the Best M/M Political Romance list. Enemy of My Enemy, book 2 in the same series, was nominated for several awards as well. So far, things are going well! Enemies of the State, the first of the Executive Office series, was honored with several Book of the Year awards in 2016. I want to contribute sexy, exciting novels to the romantic thriller genre. My goal as a writer is to bring LGBT protagonists and heroes into the mainstream. I primarily write romantic thrillers that feature gay men as the heroes and protagonists. I’ve been writing LGBT romance for a little over a year now. I’m still relatively new to the scene, and I thought in this first post, I’d open up and share a bit more about me.Īnd, I’ve got an announcement about the third book in the Executive Office series at the end!
